Hammer Open Air 2011: festival info

It’s only at the second edition, but Hammer Open Air, a festival in the small town of Lieto, near Turku (Finland), is already known among the more extreme faction of the European metalheads. Likely to be sold out, this year the festival, hosting 1000 people per day, will take place between the 15th and 16th of July, preceeded by a warm-up show in Helsinki featuring Gospel of the Horns and Lie In Ruins.
Forbidden for people under 18, the winning mix of this festival is party due to the location, easily connected to the city and provided with a camping area, but most of all to the very interesting line-up that satisfies the hunger for metal of blackster, deathsters and thrashers coming mainly from Finland and neighbouring countries. A smaller version of what has become in the last few years of German Party.San Open Air.
But let’s see who are the bands that are going to play in this HOA 2011:

Friday is headlined by the legendary Texan band Absu, preceeded by their fellow countrymen Inquisition, and probably the most talented Irish metal band up to date: Primordial. But if I was you I would keep a special eye also on French Mortifera, which came back last year with their second album "Maledictiih", as well as on talented local bands such as Baptism, Alghazanth and the quite surprising Caught In The Between with their self-defined "horse metal".

On Saturday the organizers went all out to book the recently reformed Autopsy, who made their come-back for 2 exclusive shows in Europe only last summer (I was there, and I guarantee that it was well worth it!). The deathsters have one more opportunity to show also their brand new material from "Macabre Eternal". Except for Darkened Nocturn Slaughtercult and Merrimack, the rest of the running order for the day is divided among Finnish and Swedish act, but watch out for bands like In Solitude, Interment, Satanic Warmaster, TotalSelfHatred, Isole, and even Stormheit. You won’t be disappointed!
