Shining - 10/5/2011 - Nosturi - Helsinki

It’s a very special night this one in Nosturi, as proved by the reduced price of 5€ per ticket. The Swedish Shining, lead by the controversial Niklas Kvarforth, is in fact shooting the live part of their newest video, the second ever filmed, for the song “Tillsammans Är Vi Allt” (“Together We Are Everything”). This happens after the band has just been performing live at Firebox festival here in Finland only a week ago, and spent the last few weeks in this country to record the other parts of the videoclip.
Since their deal with Spinefarm Records, the band has been seen playing here already at least 4 times in the past 5 months, which explains why, even with the occasion, there isn’t really that much of a crowd. Also the fact that it’s during a weekday doesn’t really help, nonetheless the show starts really early, when at 20:30 the guys climb on stage, after a brief announcement that explains how the shooting will take place at the end of the gig.
The concert starts among the cheers of the audience, which makes its presence felt even in small numbers, and while the crew starts to set up the necessary equipment, Shining goes through their most recent “repertoire” during the first 75 minutes of this performance. Nothing really out of ordinary, and that’s quite strange given the character, but it makes sense in a way as the stage needs to be in a proper state for the video shooting. As I’ve been watching Shining many times this year, the live gig goes on really quickly, and soon it’s time to make this famous video.
For the occasion, another famous Swedish artist, Nordman, is invited on stage to perform the song, and Niklas incite the audience to give it their all. Flames all around the band and the occasional fireworks work as a frame to this special moment, where the song is repeated 3 times to shot from different angles and perspectives (it’s actually quite interesting to see how a proper live video is made). After this the band promised an encore with two more classics, and that’s when everyone would think that the evening is at the end, that “Tillsammans Är Vi Allt” is played again, twice. As necessary as it is, it might have been a bit too much on the audience, which slowly begins to leave.
All in all, another 2 hours and a half of Shining, and that should be enough for the next few months, especially since they probably won’t show themselves too early on Finnish soil another time. A really nice evening, and a good variation for an autumn Wednesday night, particularly for those who couldn’t see the band the previous times. Now everyone waiting for the video, and let’s see what will be the final result!
